During the first winter I owned the car, I installed an A&A supercharger kit so the C6 Z06’s couldn’t kick sand in my face. When I took the car to get tuned, one of the hypereutectic pistons crapped out and blew the motor on the dyno. To make a long story short, the car ended up as a professionally built and installed blown 383 stroker. You can read about the rebuild on the forum.
The car made 685rwhp. I can’t find that sheet so I put the 665rwhp pull up. Those numbers come in right around 800hp with 15% driveline loss, which I believe is accurate for these cars. You can call it whatever you want. It’s a lot of power and a serious car when you get on it. They were having problems with the tach on the dyno as I recall, which is why their is no accurate torque numbers.
The car has been a great car. It’s been so reliable and so much fun to drive that it has distracted me from my other projects. I’m getting geared up to do a frame off pro-touring build on my ’87 Grand National. But I find having this car around too distracting as it’s always ready to go without complaint. I affectionately refer to the car as “Jeckyl & Hyde”. It’s a ***** cat when driven conservatively, and gets outstanding fuel economy on the highway loping along in sixth gear. But turn up the wick and it’s like a different car. I’m not going to sugar coat it. You can get yourself into a lot of trouble in an eye blink in this car. But man is it fun!
The car is immaculate with the exception of three known defects.
- There is a chip in the paint at the bottom of the PS door from a rock on the highway. It went right through the paint protection.
- The PS rear wheel has some curb rash on it, limited to the outer ring. I always meant to send it back to HRE for refinishing, but haven’t gotten around to it.
- The fuel gauge intermittently reads empty…a known issue with these cars. I always keep it full with fuel so it hasn’t been an issue.
I’d give the car a 8.5/10 on the exterior (only for the defects…the paint is otherwise a 10 as it has been professionally maintained), the interior is a 10/10, and the drivetrain is an 11/10. I own/have owned a lot of “toy” cars, and this Z06 really is that nice.
The price I’m asking for the car is $32,000 USD. I’m sure some people are going to say that’s high…that’s what I want for it or it can stay in my family. You’re more than welcome to price out a similar car and the modifications and see what you arrive at. For any American buyers, I will help with importing the car back to the U.S. I just delivered one of my other cars to an Arizonan last week, after meeting in Montana. It’s not difficult.
So I think that’s it. Please contact me at dhigson@telusplanet.net as I am not always around on the forums. Also, there are other pictures of the car available here. If you’re serious about the car and want to see any other pictures, let me know. It’s waiting for it’s new owner…
