More from the seller:
The time has come to sell the car that I have owned the longest. I bought this car three years ago and swapped it the following year and have driven it about 12,000 miles since. Now I find myself moving to a city where this car will be completely impractical and therefore will not be driven. This has been one of the most fun Subarus I have owned and constantly makes people do a double take as I rumble by. It turns beautifully and can put you in the back of your seat on acceleration. Here are some details about it:
The chassis is a 1998 RS coupe (182,000 miles on chassis) that was stripped down to bare metal (no original paint) by a local body shop that specializes in German luxury cars and Teslas, had all imperfections corrected and painted with BASF paint. The chassis was inspected for rust and no rust was found during the process. The body has never been in an accident.
The swapped parts come from a 2005 STi (108,000 miles at purchase) that was in a front end collision in Charleston, SC and was totaled by the insurance company due to a motor problem from the accident (bent valves via a cracked timing belt cover). The motor was not used. I disassembled the car and used the following parts:
– 6 Speed Transmission, Drive Shaft and Rear Diff
– Axles (cleaned and repacked with grease)
– 5×114.3 hubs (cleaned and refinished)
– Front control arms and rear lateral links (cleaned and refinished)
– F+R Sway bars
– Both front and rear subframes (Cleaned)
– Gas tank and entire fuel system, with new pump
– Intake manifold, throttle body, alternator, brake lines, ABS and other assorted engine parts NOT damaged in accident
– Dashboard assembly
– Wiring harness (the part that runs under the front crash structure was undamaged)
– Brembo Brakes (Refinished)
– ECU and other computers
– Wheels
The other parts from the donor car were either damaged or unwanted. The motor in the car comes from a 2012 WRX (EJ255) which was cleaned, resurfaced and honed to OEM specs. The motor has 11,500 miles on it, along with the following parts:
– BC Racing Coilovers
– VF39 turbo
– Brake Rotors and Pads
– SS brake lines
– Tires
– DW740cc injectors
– Mishimoto radiator and Perma-Cool fans
– Suspension bushings
– Front and Rear (JDM) bumper, wing, hood scoop and other assorted exterior parts.
The interior of the car has seats and carpet from and 03 WRX and the flocked dashboard with the 05-07 sti center console. The steering wheel is from a 2004 STi. All plastic parts inside have been painted satin black, and the headliner was recovered in black. The windows have been tinted 35%. The A/C was recharged last summer, and it blows cold. Other various aesthetic parts have been altered on the car. I was hoping to achieve a look that appeared to be from the factory, but radical at the same time. Effortless.

There are some places that have slipped on the car which I would like to point out. The sunroof mechanism has small metal piece broken off which does not allow it to close properly, so I leave it closed. The wheels have been poorly painted by the previous owner and could use powder coating, which I plan to do by the end of summer. The gauges in the ATI clock pod do not function and will be replaced with the OEM clock. The fender turn signals do not work (the sti harness did not have a plug).
Now, it is extremely hard to price a car like this because there are few similar examples of it out there. Lots of RS owners might swap and engine or maybe the drivetrain, but very few have taken it as far as I have with the complete re-work of the car. That being said, I am not looking to put a price on the car which equals its sum of parts (which is greater than I expected), but what I think it is worth.
$24,000

I am in no rush to sell this car. It is currently at the body shop that painted it being touched up and having a drip of clear coat from its first painting being fixed. Once the car is out of the body shop, I will take some current pictures. The car will be re-tuned and compression tested prior to sale.
