Are you looking forward to seeing this year’s car commercials in the Super Bowl? Who do you think will have the best ones? Follow us on a look back at the best automotive ads released during the Super Bowl over the past 6 years. From Audi to Maserati to Chrysler, here are our top 10:
10. Starting at number 10, we have Toyota’s “Living the dream with the all new Corolla” from the 2009 Super Bowl. This one gets most of its points for comedy and nostalgia: the Corolla is one of the most-sold cars in the US, and the 2009 redesigned model represents a heavy brushstroke across the scenery of cars across our roads.
9. At number 9, from the 2011 Super Bowl, check out Volkswagen’s “The Force” commercial featuring a young child pretending to be Darth Vader. Wish we could use the force to help with those no-start issues…
8. Showing a preview of the soon to be released Acura NSX is commercial number 8 from the 2012 Super Bowl staring Jerry Seinfeld and Jay Leno. Hilarious commercial featuring some of the biggest automotive enthusiasts on the big screen, though we would have liked more time with the NSX.
7. For the 2010 Super Bowl, Volkswagen goes back to the well-known family punch-buggy game for its “PunchDub” commercial. Great commercial that snags 7th place because it resonates with the enthusiast in all of us.
6. Dodge came out with the “Charger – Man’s Last Stand” commercial for the 2010 Super Bowl ad which landed them at number 6. Dodge captures the compromise that us enthusiasts experience in this fun spot.
5. From 2013, at number 5, a high school boy struggles with going to prom alone until his dad hands him the keys to his S6. Looks like a few extra hundred horses is what the kid needed to transform his night. We can relate, sometimes a nice spirited drive is all you need to turn your day around.
4. Kia Optima’s 2012 “Dream Car” Super Bowl commercial stars the Mr.Sandman fairy passing out good dreams, when he trips and spills all of his dream dust onto the sleeping man. While we doubt people are dreaming about Kias, the new Optima turbo was a pleasant surprise. More importantly, this ad captures all the things we love in a beautifully exaggerated way.
3. Ram Trucks’ “Farmer” spot in the 2013 superbowl takes third place. Beautiful imagery and segments of Paul Harvey’s famous speech bring home a strong message about hard work and dedication. While it is a truck-focused spot, the long hours and dedication resonated with our experiences building our dream cars.
2. Taking second place is Chrysler brand’s epic “It’s Half time in America” featuring Clint Eastwood. A reminder of the recession that we still haven’t fully recovered from yet. Awesome scenes of Detroit and an inspiring speech from Clint Eastwood remind us of the auto industry’s impact on our economy and our lives.
1. First place goes to Maserati’s 2014 ad for the new Ghibli. This spot combines an inspirational message with awesome images and sounds. Maserati is the underdog with big plans to fight the “giants”; a powerful message with awesome Italian sounds to back it up.
