Do you struggle following through with your New Year’s resolutions? We do… probably because most are boring and pointless anyway! Here are 3 New Year’s resolution categories and our resolutions for 2015. What are your enthusiast resolutions?
1. More Track / Seat Time
The #1 best modification to make your car faster: the driver mod. Invest in it for 2015 – set some goals for seat time at the track. Check out autocross events with your local SCCA region, or track days / HPDE events with SCCA, NASA, BMWCCA, PCA, and various local trackday providers. A great way to find track day providers is to access the calendar of your local race track and see who has events scheduled. Thunderhill is a popular track for NorCal car enthusiasts. If you’re already a track junky, set some goals to lower your lap times, get your racing license, or pass on your wisdom as an instructor.
We’d like to hit at least one track / HPDE event per month in California with our newly acquired track Miata. Look out for some track day reports and videos in 2015!
2. Expand your Network
There are so many channels for enthusiasts to meet, talk, and learn from other enthusiasts: social media, forums, car meets / shows, track events. Make a commitment to go to more meets or events in your local community, or join a new online forum or social media group to contribute to the online community.
We’d like to share our articles and cars with as many enthusiasts as possible! Our goal is to reach 10k followers on Twitter and Facebook, while becoming more active at local track events and in local enthusiast communities.
3. Maintain a Budget
Take a bit of time – either mentally or with some pen and paper – to go over what you’re planning to spend on your car in 2015. We all know this can be an expensive passion, so be realistic about your budget and what you want to get out of your car. Remember, if you’re on a budget (who isn’t?) – you can only have 2 of the 3: fast, reliable, pretty.
For 2015 we want to invest in seat time at the track, and a track-prepped Mazda Miata fit the bill. There’s no better platform to get cheap seat time and build your skills. Check out our Cars listing to find other great street / track car picks.
Hope these categories help you come up with some good resolutions for yourself! Let us know if this helped; we’d love to hear what you think!
